The town, which was peaceful before Typhoon Mawar hit, was literally reduced to rubble.

Debris of buildings are scattered everywhere.

Residential neighborhoods, once harmonious with trees and houses, have turned into ruins, with barely a trace of their existence.

Hotels and resorts also took a direct hit from the typhoon.

Green pools turned to muddy water, and all the umbrellas on the beach were gone.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s NASA base on Guam was also hit hard.

The round structure, visible on radar, was devastated.

Satellite imagery comparing before and after the storm reminded us of the power of Super Typhoon Mawar as it swept through Guam.

With so much damage, recovery is not going to be easy.

More than 3,000 South Korean tourists have been stranded for days, with the airport closed.

In particular, they say they still don’t have electricity or water.

[KOREAN TOURIST: It’s getting worse every day, we don’t have any communication, and now we have some, and we’re conserving the water that the hotel provided].

They are also asking for help, saying that food is scarce and there are many children and patients.

[Korean tourist: First of all, it doesn’t matter if it’s urgent, there are elderly people, pregnant women, sick people here, and I’m also a patient, so it’s really hard to just survive day by day like this].

With Guam authorities aiming to resume airport operations in the next 30 days or so, the inconvenience is bound to continue until the skies are open again.
