Korea’s national softball team conducts field training in Japan… Practice matches with 9 universities

The Korea Baseball Softball Association (KBSA) will conduct training for the national softball team in Japan from February 20th to March 9th.

This training session in Japan was prepared to enhance the Korean national softball team’s real sense of practice, which is aiming for the first ever medal at the 19th Hangzhou Asian Games, and to prepare for the Asian Softball Cup to be held in Incheon in April.

The association decided on Japan, which is second in the softball world rankings and won the gold medal in softball at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, as the training ground and requested the Japan Softball Association (JSA) to organize a systematic training program.

During the 18-day off-campus training, the Korean national team will practice joint training with the softball team of Yamanashi Gakuin University in Japan and practice matches with softball teams from 9 universities including Waseda University, Fuji University, and Josai University.

And to conduct professional defense training, we plan to invite coach Rei Nishiyama, a former Japanese national softball team. Coach Rei Nishiyama served as a shortstop for Japan’s national softball team for 12 years, winning gold medals with the Japanese team at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, 2006 Doha, 2010 Guangzhou and 2014 Incheon Asian Games.

“The goal of our national softball team is to win a bronze medal at the 19th Hangzhou Asian Games,” said Noh Jong-woo, head coach of the national softball team. Through this off-campus training, we will improve the performance of the players and make sure to achieve the Asian Games prize for the first time in Korean softball.”
