A National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) task force set up to uncover the identity of unidentified flying objects (UFOs) has called for the release of footage taken by military agencies, saying it needs quality data for its research.
NASA made the announcement on March 31 (local time) after holding a meeting to deliberate on the preliminary findings of the UFO expert task force ahead of the release of its report this summer. NASA formed the 16-member task force last year to study UFOs.
“Our purpose is not to figure out the nature of UFOs, but to provide a roadmap for NASA to analyze them, and for that we need high-quality data,” said Princeton University professor David Spurgill, who chaired the group.
The U.S. Department of Defense has investigated more than 800 UFO cases over the past 27 years, but about 5 percent of them remain unsolved. However, the Defense Department considers much of its UFO data to be classified, limiting researchers’ access to it.
“The data we have available on UFOs is of such low quality that it is impossible to characterize them,” says Spurgell. “We need to collect data through thorough classification and analysis.”
Research is also hampered by conspiracy theories surrounding UFOs. While the U.S. Department of Defense encourages U.S. military pilots to actively report UFO-related스포츠토토 incidents, civilian pilots are reluctant to do so for fear of being judged.
“There’s also a lot of criticism of the researchers online,” Spurgill said, “and that’s one of the things that makes our work difficult.”
The researchers emphasized the need to involve private companies and citizens in UFO research. The data collected by private companies’ satellites can be utilized by researchers and can be used as high-quality research data due to its high resolution. They also explained that it is necessary to develop a reliable application (app) so that citizens can utilize the data taken in various regions.
The researchers will release their first report in July of this year and suggest ways to improve the research environment for UFOs. The goal is to provide a scientific analysis of the conspiracy theories that have emerged due to the government’s passive response to UFO-related issues.
